Berlin Berlin (2)

We are again in Berlin. In the first seciton we had learned about some historical places. Now we are continuing our journey. From Alexanderplatz...

Fernsehturm

That is the name of the television tower in Berlin. It is at the backside of the Alexanderplatz metro station. It is 368 meter long and you can see it from most of the parts of Berlin. Actually it was always my guide. If you walk in a far place, by following it you can reach always to Alexanderplatz and get a train to wherever you want.

It is one of the tourist attractions a well. While it gives you the chance of seeing Berlin from 368 meter long. By paying an entrance fee, you can go up and have a perfect view of Berlin. But keep in mind also that there is most of the time a long queue in front of the tower. Especially in summer time.

Tiergarten

It is an urban park in the middle of Berlin. You can take a metro (S-bahn) in Alexanderplatz and go out in Tiergarten stop.

It is very nice to walk or ride a bicycle there. Especially in autumn, the view shouldn't be missed. The falling leaves, the yellow leaves ont he ground, the ducks in the river creates a nice atmosphere.

Maybe also it gives a sad feeling... So may be it is better to go there not alone! "Tier" means animal in German but it is not a zoo. The name has an old story. Tiergarten was originally the haunting reserve of the prince-electors but was transformed into a park in 1830.

Zoo

Like in each big city Berlin has also a zoo. You can reach there with metro, bus or by car as well. You can take the metros (S-bahn) with the numbers S5/S7/S75/S9 and go out at the Zoologischer Garten stop. Or the underground metro (U-bahn) with number U2/U9 and go out again at the same stop. In Germany there are two kinds of metros. One goes underground (U-bahn), the other on the surface (S-bahn).

The Zoo is open in winter time every day between 09:00-17:00. In summer time it is open till 19:00. That is between 21st March and 3rd October. You can see there each kind of animal. Pandas, giraffes, bear... And also Knut. The famous polar bear. When it was little, it was very famous. Still people come to visit it but now it is an adult bear!

In the zoo there is also a big aquarium for the sea lovers...

These are the most visited parts in Berlin...

Potsdamer Platz

Here there is the famous Sony Center. Inside it there are cinema, restaurants and cafes. The best side of the cinema in Sony Center is that you can see the movies in English. And you have the possiblity of shopping in Potsdamer Platz with its many shopping centers.

Shopping

Berlin presents also many shopping opportunities. Especially in Kurfürstendam there are so many shops and the famous shopping center KaDeWe. In Alexanderplatz you can find Galeria and also the shopping center Alex. Hackescher Markt has also many shops.

That is all for now about Berlin. Lastly I suggest you to buy a tourist ticket which allows you to see all the museums. That is more profitable. It is 19 euro (reduced 9,5 euro) and valid for 3 days.

Auf wiedersehen...
